Ferrari Revives the Testarossa Name with 1,036-hp Hybrid Supercar

Ferrari has unveiled its latest flagship, the 849 Testarossa, a plug-in hybrid berlinetta that replaces the SF90 Stradale and revives one of the most storied names in the company’s history.

The car combines a heavily reworked 830-hp twin-turbo V8 with three electric motors for a total of 1,036 hp, making it the most powerful production Ferrari to date. Despite the added performance, it carries the same dry weight as the SF90, giving it Ferrari’s best power-to-weight ratio in a range model.

Revival of an Iconic Name

The Testarossa name was first used on the 500 TR in 1956, a reference to the red-painted cam covers of Ferrari’s racing engines. It became iconic with the 1984 Testarossa road car. Ferrari says the new model draws on that heritage while looking forward, with styling influenced by 1970s sports prototypes and modern Formula 1.

Powertrain and Performance

The car is powered by Ferrari’s latest F154FC V8, producing 830 hp at 7,500 rpm. The engine features a new, larger turbocharger, redesigned cylinder heads, and titanium fasteners, gaining 50 hp over the SF90 without a weight penalty.

The hybrid system adds 220 hp through two front-axle motors and a Formula 1-derived MGU-K on the rear axle. A 7.45 kWh battery provides up to 15 miles of electric range.

Performance figures include:

  • 0–62 mph in under 2.3 seconds
  • 0–124 mph in 6.35 seconds
  • Top speed beyond 205 mph
  • Fiorano lap time of 1:17.500

Aerodynamics and Vehicle Dynamics

The 849 Testarossa produces 915 pounds of downforce at 155 mph, 55 pounds more than its predecessor, thanks to a redesigned underfloor, vortex generators, and an active rear spoiler. Cooling efficiency has improved by 15 percent, supporting both the combustion engine and hybrid system.

Ferrari’s new ABS Evo and FIVE estimator system make their debut here, using a real-time digital twin to optimize braking, traction, and stability. The result, Ferrari claims, is more precise, repeatable handling than any other car in its lineup.

Design and Interior

Styling, led by Flavio Manzoni, emphasizes sharper lines and stronger geometry. The twin-tail rear recalls the 512 S race car, while sculpted side intakes balance aerodynamics and visual impact.

The cabin mixes racing cues with modern usability, including a horizontal dashboard, floating elements, and a redesigned gear gate. The steering wheel returns to physical controls after criticism of touch-sensitive pads in recent models. Digital displays, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and wireless charging are standard.

Options

An optional Assetto Fiorano package cuts 30 kg with carbon fibre, titanium, and lightweight bucket seats. It also includes Multimatic dampers, Michelin Cup 2 tires, and an aero kit with twin wings that triples rear downforce. On the outside, the Testarossa offers new exterior paints, Rosso Fiammante and Giallo Ambra, are available, along with Giallo Siena Alcantara for the interior. Ferrari’s seven-year maintenance program is included, and new hybrid warranty options extend coverage for the high-voltage battery to 16 years.

The New Flagship Ferrari

The newest Maranello hypercar revives a classic badge as the new high point of their lineup and their most powerful car of Ferrari’s Hybrid era, combining Ferrari racing tech with their road car refinement.
