Mazda Tests Vehicle Using Low-Carbon Gasoline Fuel

Through participation in the Super Taikyu Series, cars and fuel have become a joint challenge with the entire Japan team.

Mazda Motor Corporation (Mazda) has announced that the MAZDA SPIRIT RACING RS FUTURE CONCEPT (car number 12), which will be competing in the ENEOS Super Taikyu Series 2025 Empowered by BRIDGESTONE, will use low-carbon gasoline (E20) fuel manufactured by ENEOS Corporation (ENEOS). A demonstration run was conducted at the Fuji 24 Hours race, Round 3, held from May 30 to June 1.

“Low carbon gasoline (E20)” is a low carbon fuel that is made by blending about 20% bioethanol into gasoline. While blended fuels of about 10% are becoming more common overseas, there is a need for precedents both domestically and internationally for the supply of 20% blended fuel.

In the harsh environment of motorsports, Mazda will use and evaluate low-carbon gasoline (E20) fuel, and share knowledge and issues with ENEOS and participating automakers. Toward the realization of a carbon-neutral society, ENEOS and automakers across Japan will work together to “strengthen cars and fuels” as they work together to “challenge” the issue. *1 Mazda hopes to contribute to the spread of low-carbon fuels.

Based on its Multi-Solution Strategy, Mazda is challenging itself to evolve internal combustion engines into the future era of electrification so that they can handle a variety of fuels, and is working on developing technologies that will offer customers more options in the future.

Mazda will continue to evolve driving pleasure based on its people-centered values, creating exciting mobility experiences in customers’ everyday lives, and delivering the joy of living.
