Customized luxury experience with two curated concepts
The Mercedes-Maybach SL is an extraordinary combination of beauty and sportiness. This is notably expressed by the two curated design concepts. “White Ambience” presents itself in a new interpretation of Maybach two-tone paintwork with Obsidian Black Metallic over MANUFAKTUR Moonlight White Magno. In “Red Ambience,” Obsidian Black Metallic contrasts elegantly with MANUFAKTUR Garnet Red Metallic. Developed for the first time for the new Mercedes‑Maybach two-seater, this new color is characterized by its vibrant, rich hue and remarkable depth.
The extensive use of sustainably tanned MANUFAKTUR Crystal White Nappa leather throughout the interior creates an airy, refined ambience. The elegant upholstery adorns the seats with a new, floral design and also extends to the door panels, center console and space behind the seats. The seat backrests and trim elements in silver chrome provide a striking contrast. The intricate design of the seat surface and backrest ensures maximum comfort. The seat side panels are also positioned lower for ease of ingress and egress.
Over 50 MANUFAKTUR Exclusive colors for individualization
In addition to the two curated design concepts, more than 50 MANUFAKTUR Exclusive paints are available for the Mercedes-Maybach SL. The color palette is inspired by precious stones, minerals and natural environments such as Côte d’Azur Blue, as well as current color trends from fashion, architecture and design. This also includes newly interpreted classic hues from the historic paint archives of Mercedes‑Benz and Maybach.
Maybach exterior design with sporty elements
The open-top two-seater is the first Maybach model in which the design of the Maybach-specific chrome radiator grille, with its fine vertical slats, has an A-shape contour. In typical sports-car fashion, it shifts the visual center of gravity downward. The contour of the radiator grille is illuminated, as is the delicately integrated Maybach lettering. The front fascia, with its horizontal air intakes and striking chrome trim, also emphasizes the sporty character of the Maybach SL. Additional distinctive details include the windshield frame finished in gleaming chrome, rose gold accents in the headlights, side sill panels with an integrated chrome element, as well as the hood bearing a standing Mercedes star and chrome element positioned longitudinally. 21-inch Maybach forged wheels, available in five-hole Monoblock or multi-spoke designs, underscore the vehicle’s exclusivity.
The rear of the Maybach SL is characterized by the taillights featuring the Mercedes-Maybach logo, a Maybach-specific rear fascia with chrome accents, unique diffuser panel and tailpipe trims with signature horizontal bar. Aerodynamically designed double scoops behind the rear seats, together with the chrome element on the hood, give the two-seater a particularly elegant, sporty profile, especially with the soft top down. The acoustic soft top features a light black fabric with a subtle anthracite Maybach pattern.
Hood with integrated Maybach pattern using innovative PixelPaint process
To further enhance exclusivity, the Obsidian Black Metallic hood is also available with the Maybach pattern integrated in Graphite Grey. This is accomplished via a complex process with the utmost precision. First, the hood receives a base coat and an initial clearcoat, which is then sanded by hand. It is then printed with the Maybach pattern using the new PixelPaint process. The hood receives two more coats of clear and is sanded by hand until the final clearcoat finish is applied. The four coats of clear lacquer and three hand-sanded coats give the Maybach pattern an extraordinary visual depth. Each layer of clear lacquer is sanded by hand, which takes several hours and requires meticulous attention to detail.
Inspired by an inkjet printer, the innovative, sustainable painting technology enables custom patterns and designs to be applied directly to the bodywork with incredible precision. The print head has more than 1,000 nozzles, each of which can be controlled individually. These can apply drops of paint at a microscopic size of 20 to 50 microns at a speed of over 1,000 drops per second. The extremely precise color application means no spray mist is produced. Labor-intensive masking and multiple passes for painting are no longer necessary, resulting in less waste and lower emissions.
High acoustic comfort for serene driving pleasure
The highest standards also apply to the acoustic comfort of the Mercedes‑Maybach SL. Comprehensive measures ensure the quiet, comfortable driving experience typical of the brand. This includes extensive sound insulation, aluminum butyl surfaces and sound absorption foams, among other things. The exhaust system is also designed with the highest possible proportion of insulating materials. The muffler features innovative inlays made of recyclable fiberglass fabric to make the Mercedes‑Maybach SL even quieter.
Superb driving dynamics and supreme comfort
Agile and powerful, the open-top two-seater is equally suited for both relaxed cruising and sporty driving. It offers a high level of Maybach comfort combined with the sophisticated driving dynamics of an SL thanks to its advanced suspension with active, hydraulic roll stabilization. Hydraulic elements replace conventional mechanical anti-roll bars and compensate for rolling movements in fractions of a second. The system enables maximum ride comfort when cornering, driving straight ahead and over road imperfections. Maybach-specific valves for the damper hydraulics and softer steel springs also allow the suspension to respond more sensitively. Uneven road surfaces are gently absorbed. New front-axle head bearings, modified overall elastokinematics and Pirelli P Zero tires also contribute to the excellent ride comfort.
Four drive programs, “Comfort,” “Maybach,” “Sport” and “Individual,” provide a wide range of driving experiences. In the Comfort and Maybach programs, softer accelerator pedal calibration offers a smoother and more refined response to driver inputs.
The 577-hp 4.0‑liter biturbo engine and smooth-shifting 9G‑TRONIC automatic transmission ensure dynamic driving pleasure at the Maybach level. 4MATIC+ fully variable all-wheel drive and an electronically controlled locking rear differential provide outstanding traction and driving safety, even in slippery road conditions. Standard rear-axle steering contributes to the vehicle’s precise and stable handling.
Exclusive collection from MAYBACH Icons of Luxury
To match the new Mercedes-Maybach SL Monogram Series, MAYBACH Icons of Luxury is offering a collection in the online store. The design is inspired by the materials and colors of the open-top two-seater. The collection includes a leather jacket, sneakers, scarf, bag and dog carrier.
