Elizabeth (Liz) Gibson is group vice president and general counsel for Toyota Motor North America (TMNA). In this role, Gibson oversees the company’s legal department and is responsible for setting legal direction and strategy. She provides strategic guidance to the enterprise to help navigate complicated legal challenges, enable the business to accomplish objectives, mitigate risks and liabilities and support the culture of compliance and ethics. Gibson serves as an advisor to the TMNA Audit Committee, Compliance Advisory Council and the Risk Committee. She also has oversight of the Toyota de Mexico and Toyota Puerto Rico legal teams and regularly advises on global projects.
Prior to her current role, Gibson served as vice president and deputy general counsel, with responsibility for complex litigation, product liability, government investigations, risk mitigation, intellectual property, franchise/dealer issues and regulatory compliance.
Previously, Gibson served as the vice president of Compliance & Audit and Chief Compliance Counsel where she was responsible for compliance and ethics, internal investigations, risk finance and insurance, risk assessment and management and regulatory oversight and monitoring.
Prior to joining Toyota in 2006, Gibson practiced entertainment and intellectual property law in Los Angeles, California. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Gibson is a member of the American Law Institute and is passionate about civil justice reform and works to ensure an even playing field for all participants in the judicial process.
