100 events contested, 53 victories. This is the incredible score of Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT since it entered the FIA World Rally Championship in 2017, with OMP always by its side as technical partner for the supply of racewear and seats. The 100 entries milestone was reached at the Safari Rally Kenya, and was celebrated in the best possible way with Elfyn Evans and his co-driver Scott Martin winning.
The team also confirmed its unbeatability in the African round, having claimed every edition since 2021. The Safari Rally Kenya is known for being one of the most challenging races of the year, with the cars equipped with specific configurations. The special stages in Kenya were even more demanding this year, with the competitive distance extended to 383 kilometres and rain encountered on Saturday.
Evans completed the rally with a margin of 1’09″9, taking his second consecutive triumph after the previous one in Sweden, and continuing on the wave of a superb start to the season. Now, he leads the standings with 88 points, thanks also to the second place in the Rallye Monte-Carlo behind the other GR Yaris Rally1 of Sébastien Ogier.
“It’s amazing to have won this rally. It’s not quite sunk in fully yet but the Safari Rally is a special event to win. A huge well done to the team, who work very hard to give us an amazing car, and I’m proud to be a very small part of Toyota’s great history on this rally. It’s been a massively demanding weekend, probably the most extreme Safari we’ve seen since we’ve been coming here, and the weather added an extra twist on Saturday”, Evans commented.
Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT is undefeated in this beginning of the 2025 campaign, in which it is aiming for a fifth consecutive Manufacturers’ title, the sixth in eight years.
The next round on the calendar is a new one for the WRC, the Rally Islas Canarias from 24 to 27 April.
