Z06 GT3.R | Twelve Hours of Sebring

11 March 2025

IMSA will host the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring this Saturday, and fresh off of AWA’s GTD Class Win at Daytona, four Z06 GT3.Rs will seek to advance Corvette Racing history again.

The Z06 GT3.R debuted in the 2024 racing season as an FIA GT3 compliant track-only competitor in IMSA’s GT Daytona and GTD Pro classes. Its competitors: Aston Martin, BMW, Chevrolet, Ferrari, Ford (Pro only), Lamborghini, Lexus, Mercedes-AMG, and Porsche.

Design and development of the mid-engine Z06 GT3.R is a collaboration between GM’s Motorsports Competition Engineering division and Pratt Miller Engineering. In researching this article I learned that Pratt Miller is a brand of the Oshkosh Corporation (acquired in 2020,) perhaps better known as the manufacturer of Global War on Terrorism era military vehicles. Quite the diverse portfolio at Oskosh, everything from the M977 HEMTT to the Z06 GT3.R.

“I am honored to have the opportunity for AWA to represent Corvette in the IMSA WeatherTech Championship,” said Andrew Wojteczko, AWA team owner and technical director. “I have the utmost respect for the people involved and am looking forward to doing our part to help secure results for the Z06 GT3.R.”

Alec Udell: “There are lots of positives to take away from here (Daytona 2025), despite the finish. From a team standpoint, they executed flawlessly in the pits and really helped us climb to the top early in the race. With where we were coming from last year, we had to learn a whole new set of rules and procedures in GTD, so I really feel like we were firing on all cylinders in that sense. The race was a lot of fun. I felt pretty confident in the car and felt like I could push as the stint went on. I was just learning a bit on the new way of energy saving and just working through all the different ways you can fight in the midst of all that. I definitely had a lot of fun and really enjoyed the double stint and was looking forward to more, but that just want to be for us today. We still took a ton from these past two weeks and I expect us to be on it from the jump at Sebring.”

DXDT joins IMSA after a very strong 2024 season in GT World Challenge America. The team will continue its very successful relationship with Chevrolet and Corvette as part of the customer racing program, campaigning the No. 36 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R in a full-season effort.

Competing in world-renowned races like the Rolex 24 At Daytona, 12 Hours of Sebring and Petit Le Mans is something that team owner David Askew says has always been in his plans for the team. “I’m really excited to take what is a big step for DXDT to compete in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in GTD next year,” Askew said. “I began racing and working on building this team with the idea of eventually getting to IMSA, and everything that I’ve been doing over the past 10 years has been designed to help me achieve that goal.”

“We are thrilled to see multiple Corvette Z06 GT3.Rs in IMSA’s GTD class for 2025,” said Mark Stielow, Director, Chevrolet Motorsports Competition Engineering. “DXDT Racing proved itself this year in GT World Challenge with double-digit victories across the Pro and Pro-Am classes in the first year with our Corvette GT3. We’re proud to support David Askew and DXDT Racing as they continue pursuing their goals in becoming a well-established and successful team across multiple series in sports car racing.”

The Pratt Miller entries will run Mobile 1 throwback Protofab livery for this weekend’s race.

Antonio Garcia and Alexander Sims are in the No. 3 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R for the entire season after winning one race and placing third in the class standings in 2024.

Tommy Milner and Nicky Catsburg are returning for the entire season in the No. 4 Corvette Z06 GT3.R. They finished eighth in the GTD PRO standings last season with a pair of podium finishes and a class-leading three Motul Pole Awards earned by Catsburg.

Corvette in GTD, the No. 3 Corvette from Pratt Miller Motorsports finished second in GTD PRO and the No. 4 sister Corvette led seven times in class

Alexander Sims and Antonio Garcia led a 1-2 class finish for the Corvette Z06 GT3.R on Sunday (July 14th, 2024) as Corvette Racing by Pratt Miller Motorsports swept to the top of GTD PRO in the Chevrolet Grand Prix at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.

Purpose Built Carbon Diffuser

The Corvette Z06 GT3.R boasts a custom-made carbon rear diffuser that enhances its aerodynamic efficiency by generating a low-pressure area beneath the rear of the vehicle. This low-pressure zone increases the vehicle’s overall stability and grip without increasing drag when operating at high speeds.

5.5L LT6.R

The Corvette Z06 GT3.R employs a 5.5-liter flat-plane crank engine sourced from the road-going Chevrolet Corvette Z06. This engine showcases distinctive features such as a motorsports-specific oil sump system and a custom accessory drive. Remarkably, the GT3.R engine retains 70% of its genetic makeup from the original OEM model.

Z06 Road Car Inspired Side Inlet

The side inlets of the Corvette Z06 GT3.R, positioned just ahead of the rear wheels, functions as air scoops that channels ambient cool air into the engine’s intake system. This infusion of cooler air serves to enhance the engine’s performance by delivering a direct supply of air that can be utilized for combustion and other cooling demands.

Motorsports-specific Steering Wheel

The steering wheel of the Corvette Z06 GT3.R comes equipped with integrated paddle controls, a quick disconnect hub, and a host of essential vehicle controls easily accessible at your fingertips. This streamlined design enables drivers to make crucial adjustments in real-time when they matter most.

Carbon Splitter

The specialized carbon fiber splitter showcased on the Corvette Z06 GT3.R alters airflow patterns and contributes to the vehicle’s front downforce. This downforce increases stability, enhances grip, and refines handling.

Interior

The Corvette Z06 GT3.R interior is developed with one focus in mind – the driver. Featuring a motorsports-specific multifunction steering wheel, custom switch panel to control all vehicle functions, rear view camera screen, and the fixed composite racing seat all protected by the FIA-homologated safety cage.
