NORRA staff embarked on a tree planting mission to keep our beloved Baja green. NORRA is the leading race promoter in Baja for environmentally sound practices. They work closely with the Secretaria de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales de Mexico to restore the race course after events. Tree planting is only one of the many things NORRA has done over the years to help keep Baja amazing, but is one of the most rewarding for everyone involved.
NORRA worked with high school students and local volunteers to plant sustainable trees in Guererro Negro, Bay of Los Angeles and San Felipe. They only placed trees where they would be adopted by people who promised to maintain them going forward. In total, 950 trees were planted. The process involves digging the hole, putting root fertilizer at the bottom, placing the tree at the correct depth, and then covering the roots with soil and water retention supplements to make sure they get a great start. The locals were so happy to get these trees, they invited the team into their homes for a meal of carne asada, just harvested grilled corn, and fresh salsa to say thank you. It was a great time for all making new friends over a shared concern for the environment.
